トモ都市美術館 – 都市をたずねる102「五叉路を十か所めぐってみる」- “Touring Ten Five-Way Intersections”
トモ都市美術館では6/8（日）に「五叉路を十か所めぐってみる」をやります。水道橋駅からスタートして、可能な限り五叉路（場合によっては6叉路も？）を巡っていきます。水道橋は東京の中でも、古い街路と新しい都市計画が交差するエリアです。交差点といえばT字路や十字路がほとんどですが、都市が時間をかけて重層化していくと、稀に五叉路のような複雑な分岐点が生まれるようです。効率的で安全を重視して都市計画を進めると、まず現れないかたちです。このツアーでは、そうした計画外の偶発的な要素から生まれた分岐点を巡りながら、道がどのように生まれ、変化してきたのかを想像するツアーになればと思います。途中参加・離脱OK。道の歴史に興味のある方、街歩きが好きな方、ぜひ！ 誰も来なければ1人でやってみます！
On Sunday, June 8, TOMO City Museum is hosting a walking tour called “Touring Ten Five-Way Intersections.” We’ll start in Suidobashi, an area in Tokyo where old streets and newer city planning overlap. While most intersections are T-junctions or crossroads, sometimes cities, over time, develop more complex shapes—like five-way or even six-way intersections. These unexpected forms rarely appear in planned, efficient city designs. In this tour, we’ll explore these unique intersections and imagine how streets are formed, layered, and transformed over time. Anyone can join, leave, or rejoin at any point. If you’re interested in the history of roads or enjoy walking through the city, come along! And if no one shows up, I’ll just do it myself.
