クールな美術館を“ほんわか”させる。/ Softening the museum!

美術館での出来事を逐一レポートする実況者、美術館を紹介しながら企画展の展望を語る学芸員、美術館の尖った部分を見つけては養生し続けるアート引越センターの皆さん、美術館の安全・安心が実現したかを執拗に確認するトモトシ。1日間それぞれの役割を全うするなかで、それぞれの視点から捉えられた美術館の性格が見えてくる状態を目指しました。
アートにある種の過激さが求められるのは、その性質上必然的なことかもしれません。またその公共性を考えると、美術館に安全・安心が求められるのは必然的なことかもしれません。相反するかのようにも見えるこれらの要請を逆手に取って、「安全・安心を過激に実践してみる」試みでもありました。

This work, exhibited at Ichihara Lakeside Museum, is titled “Softening the museum!” In the video, professional movers pad potentially hazardous parts of the museum—walls, doors, and sharp edges—while Tomotosi repeatedly throws himself against them, creating a humorous yet thought-provoking scene.
Throughout the day, different participants engaged with the museum from unique perspectives: a commentator live-reported the events, a curator introduced the exhibition, movers continuously padded sharp areas, and Tomotosi obsessively tested the museum’s newfound “safety.”
Art often demands a certain intensity, while museums, as public spaces, prioritize safety. This work playfully reverses these expectations, turning “safety and security” into an extreme act.
