ステートメント
私は大学を卒業して数年間、建築設計や都市開発に携わりました。そこでは「都市の構造やルールがいかに人々の振る舞いを規定しているか」を観察してきました。
この関心はアーティストである現在の活動にも通底していますが、人の動きを想定して形態をつくる設計者時代とは逆のアプローチで街と関わっています。具体的には、1人の都市ユーザーとして私の体を使って、「既存の都市が要請している決まりごと」に介入する方法を探求しています。この活動を、映像やパフォーマンス、ワークショップとして提示し、都市を自発的に使い直すための提案を試みています。

Statement
During his many years working in architectural design and urban development, Tomotosi closely observed how urban structures and rules dictate human behavior. This interest remains at the core of his current practice, though he now engages with the city through an approach exactly opposite to his time as a designer.
As an artist, he explores ways to physically intervene in the city through his own body. In his video and performance works, he slips into the gaps of the “choreography that the city imposes on its users,” aiming to create temporary disruptions in people’s behavior. In a parallel series of collaborative workshops, he intentionally sets eccentric rules for walking the streets, creating moments where participants can re-examine everyday landscapes from an unfamiliar vantage point.
