THE NEVERENDING CEREMONY

バラナシ(インド)には年間100万を越えるヒンドゥー教徒の巡礼が訪れ、なかにはここで死ぬことを目的にする人さえいる。
そんな街バラナシに無数に点在するマンディール(ヒンドゥー教寺院)を見つけるたび、僕はお祈りをすることにした。
現地で買った黄色いスカーフ、麻のパンツ、数珠とビンディ(額の模様)を身にまとった。
観光客としての僕は、現地人を装いお祈りする自身の姿をカメラで録画した。
この映像は、いろいろな形で妨げられたお祈りの記録である。

Varanasi receives more than one million Hindu pilgrimages annually, some of whom even aim to die here. Whenever I found countless mandirs in Varanasi, I decided to pray. I used a camera to record myself praying as a local. This video is a record of a prayer that was obstructed in various ways.
