2000年代になると、流行をとり入れた衣類を短期間に大量生産するサイクルが「ファストファッション」と呼ばれるようになりました。ところが近年、「ファストファッション」を代表するブランドが、自社商品を「ファスト（早い）」ではなく「デモクラティック（大衆の）」という言葉で形容する動きがみられるようになりました。大量生産の安価な衣類を着て街を歩くトモトシの姿は、本来の 「デモクラティック」とは何であるのかを問いかけています。 ( 埼玉県立近代美術館 佐原しおり)
In the 2000s, the cycle of mass-producing fashionable clothing in a short period of time became known as “fast fashion”. However, in recent years, brands representing “fast fashion” have begun to describe their products as “democratic” instead of “fast”.
