地図と空図 / the SKY MAP
「地図」には建物や道路が記されています。 それらは誰にでも理解できる目印です。
その上短期間では変化しません。 つまり普遍的であり永続的であるため建物や道路は「地図」に採用されているのです。
その証拠に、この旅で東京中を自転車で廻ったときに使用した「地図」は８年前に発行されたものでしたが、問題なく使えました。 (画像下)
わたしたちが普段当たり前のように使っている「地図」。 それに対して、今回は「空図」という形式を考えました。(画像中)
一日で23区役所を巡り、各敷地内から空の写真を撮ることで「空図」は完成しました。
空は常にその形や色や明るさを変え、二度と同じ姿を見せません。
つまり空の写真は、「その日その時間その場所その人」にしか撮れない、完全にオリジナルなものです。 これは個別的であり瞬間的なことであると言えます。
両極端にある「地図」と「空図」を並べて見たときに、地と空の間で生活している「人間」のことについて考えずにはいられません。
わたしたちは普遍的であり永続的であること、個別的であり瞬間的なことの狭間で生きているのです。
Must maps be universal and lasting?
We usually imagine maps as a paper on which buildings and roads are drawn. They are used for maps because buildings and roads are stable for many years.
Now I want to offer an alternative one named ‘SKY MAP’.
I traveled 23 ward offices of central Tokyo. Although I used the bicycle whose brakes broke down, I ended this tough trip in one day. When I reached each ward office, I took a picture of the building and the sky from that site. (image middle)
The image below shows that skies vary dramatically, depending on time and site. SKY MAP is an original image which nobody can take except me of that time. On the other hand, I could use the map without trouble in spite of its oldness —- I bought it 8 years ago! And of course, it is also useful for everybody. (image below)
These extreme contrast may indicate our world. That is to say, we live between universal and subjectively or lasting and momentary.
